Scanning here opens Sold Listings. Ignore the white prices; look for green numbers.

Tip: If an item has 10 listed but 50 sold in the last month, it's a fast mover (High Sell-Through Rate).

What is a good sell-through rate?

A sell-through rate (STR) measures how fast items sell. A good rule of thumb for beginners is to look for items with at least a 50% STR, meaning there are as many sold listings as active listings in the last 90 days. 100% STR means items sell as fast as they are listed.

How to check eBay comps?

  1. Search for your item on eBay.
  2. Filter by "Sold Items" and "Completed Items".
  3. Sort by "Recent" to see the current market value.
  4. Ignore active prices; only sold prices matter.

Best shipping supplies for beginners?

To start reselling, you only need a few essentials:

  • Polymailers: Cheap and great for clothing.
  • Bubble Wrap: Essential for breakables.
  • Shipping Tape: Don't use regular scotch tape.
  • Thermal Printer: Optional but saves money on ink long-term.

How to weigh packages?

Always weigh your package after it is fully packed. Use a digital shipping scale and round up to the nearest ounce (e.g., 4.1 oz becomes 5 oz). Incorrect weights can lead to postage adjustments or returned mail.

What does BOLO mean?

BOLO stands for "Be On The Look Out". It refers to specific items or brands that resellers should look for because they are currently high-profit or fast-selling.

Best places to source inventory?

Inventory can be found almost anywhere, but the most consistent sources are:

  • Thrift Stores (Goodwill, Savers, Local shops)
  • Garage/Yard Sales (Lowest prices, high negotiation)
  • Estate Sales (Higher quality vintage items)
  • Online Arbitrage (Buying locally on FB Marketplace/OfferUp and flipping online)
  • Media Mail: Use this for Books, CDs, DVDs. It's the cheapest way to ship heavy paper items.
  • PirateShip: Never pay post office retail prices. Use PirateShip.com for commercial rates.
  • Poly Mailers: Don't box clothing. Use a poly bag to keep weight under 1lb for First Class/Ground Advantage.

When scanning books, always check Amazon. Look at the "Best Sellers Rank".

Rule of Thumb:

  • Rank under 1,000,000 = Sells eventually.
  • Rank under 100,000 = Sells very fast.

The Google button is your safety net. Use it to check Retail Prices. If you find a "rare" toy for $10, check Google to make sure Target isn't selling it brand new for $12.

  • UPC-A & UPC-E (Standard Retail)
  • EAN-13 & EAN-8 (International)
  • ISBN (Books & Media)
  • Code 128 & Code 39
